LAY THE REAL THING ON ME!

MEMPHIS ROLLER DERBY brings SEX & VIOLENCE back to MEMPHIS (in time for the HOLIDAYS!)

Last Starlet Cori Dials

"ANGEL OF DEATH" SAMANTHA PINEGAR had a dream. Granted, a dream based in submissiveness vs. control where Sam would be spanked by Cori Dials, a rival skater for the "PRIZ KILLA PREZLEYS". This turned-on image would be used to sucker money from men to raise cash for the new Memphis Roller Derby League.

Exploiter of women, children, and third world beef cattle Memphis Exploitation Consultant Mike McCarthy (formerly known as JMM) stopped counting his money long enough to show the girls the ropes (and the whips, and how to plant a heel in someone's ass).

Three hours later everyone was tired and ready to go home.

But before all that happened Let us return to STEVE JONES photography studio (formerly an old grocery store in Cooper-Young) where police hats were worn, some video was shot, and no one did anything against their will, except maybe Steve's dog who was forced to watch from a cage.

Honorary Starlet Samantha (who had witnessed MEMPHIS CONFIDENTIAL at the Hi-Tone six years ago) brought (for inspiration) her Betty Page Trading Cards. Last Starlet Cori Dials brought one of those nice hard bound vintage pin-up girl books from TASCHEN publications (the greatest publisher on earth). McCarthy fingered through images that will outlive pyramids while the starlets readied themselves in Jones bathroom.

This was the first time McCarthy had worked with Samantha but had seen her at lots of shows, primarily the SPLINTS. Cori who plays in the SPLINTS and also played CADAVERA showed up covered in bruises from roller derby practice (those are real folks!) and commenced to choosing outfits. Steve Jones readied his trusty camera. Nary a Santa hat to be had, Samantha insisted on more creative props and ultimately it was the low-light mellow toned corner shots with reindeer horns and conceptual jealousy over new skates that won out over the pure fascism of the white screen images for the Derby promo poster.

There is much cool shit to be said about the photography of STEVE JONES. Steve had great ideas for poses as well, composing skates against flesh, angles on bruises, and knowing light. Steve has been lending me a visual hand since SUPERSTARLET A.D.. Steve knows how to photograph women. And other than drawing women, there can be no higher calling.

Folks, may I pause here for thoughts corny but sin-cere ... (que music)

Their is a difference between EXPLOITATION and exploitation. Santa knows the difference. The former exalts the SUPERIORITY of the FEMALE, of FEMME FATALE, of OUTER SPACE, and assumes the mantle of Greatness, along with SUPERMAN, RICHARD HELL, and some old DORIS WISHMAN movie.

The latter is merely tabloid.
If you live in Memphis, come to the Christmas Roller Derby Burlesque Show, see bondage and hear distortion!

GIVE THE VOTE TO GRANDMA

LONG LIVE MEMPHIS ROLLER DERBY!
